Betting on America
I have moved much of my investments into the American economy. I may be too late to make big money but I'm convinced that America will outperform Canada. I have sold Canadian stocks and bought US ETF's. Not everything as I still have substantial Canadian holdings.
Obama's economy is outperforming Harper's by a wide margin. I did make one great call a couple of weeks ago. I have owned quite a large holding in Fairfax Financial for the past 15-years since I left the company. I have always been a buy and hold investor. Fairfax stock has increased from about $150 a share to $640 over the years. Fairfax bought a London insurance company called Brit two weeks ago. The stock increased $50 in one day. I pulled the trigger and sold at $690 a share. I made $7,500 in one day. I bought US ETF's with the money. I have made another $1,000 in the past two weeks. Fairfax has fallen back to $650 a share. A rare example of timing the market.
This does not mean that I will be ahead in the long run but I have good feeling about going all-American. Feels good to bet against Harper.
