257,126 steps. I'm making short work of the 400,000 challenge. The average person would take about 57 days to walk 400k. I will take about half that time due to the extensive work I'm putting into the walking. I ran 1-mile today without stopping. Hardly an Olympian feat but I had to work up to that distance. I continue to run after a series of two minute walking breaks. It is a bit of a psychological barrier I had to work through.
I had a visit with my dermatologist today. Stelara suppressed about 90% of my psoriasis. I still have some stubborn spots around my waist. My doctor prescribed a strong foam medication to take care of this issue. I hope to be 100% clear which would be a miracle. I have noticed that by stopping alcohol intake my skin has cleared up nicely. I also noticed before when I was drinking that alcohol made my psoriasis worse. Another reason to cut back dramatically. I recall a few years ago someone pointed out that my skin looked much better after a month without alcohol during another challenge.
Again the difference this time is that I plan on making permanent and dramatic changes to my lifestyle. I have not touched any bad foods during this challenge and probably only gained weight on Christmas day. I think that was the last day I had red meat.

Passed the half-way point
206,887 steps. That's 3-days in a row over 17,000 and two weeks over 100,000 by tomorrow.
I think aimed too low in this challenge.

I can't Control Harper's tax Increase But I can Control Lifestyle Choices
Stephen Harper has once again raised my taxes. He has targeted tax cuts for his base, including single income families but has raised EI premiums despite the fact that EI runs a massive surplus. I can't wait until October when this asshole is no longer our PM.
On a lighter note today is day 13 of my challenge. At the end of the day I will post an update on steps as an edit to this post. This is the 3rd year I have run a challenge. All 3 times I have had no trouble continuing the big 3 lifestyle changes. Increased exercise, watching what I eat and no alcohol. In the first year I was able to keep the weight off for most of the year before falling off the wagon.
There is little doubt I will be able to complete the challenge and that I will lose weight and look better by the end of January. Last year I completed 2-months. This year it will be about 45 days. I'm determined that this year I will not return to my old regular routine. My pledge is to continue the exercise and good eating throughout the year.
On that note I'm implementing a new challenge. As of Feb. 1st I will continue to monitor my exercise for the remainder of the year. I want to average at least 13,000 steps per day. I will not consume any junk food. I will not order delivery pizza or any other delivery food. I will still on occasion share a personal size pizza at work. I will carry on my current eating habits for the remainder of the year. No more 12 inch subway subs. The big challenge will be alcohol. On Jan. 30th I will be allowed to consume alcohol again. Here is the real challenge, I want to consume 25% of my previous levels of alcohol. No more binge drinking.
Alcohol is the real culprit that leads to poor lifestyle choices. That is not news to me or the reader. I walk to and from work. That is 1 1/2 miles. If I drink after work I always take a cab. Then I eat poorly either at the bar or when I get home. If I'm hungover after a Friday or Saturday night of drinking I get no exercise and eat poorly again. Excessive drinking leads to a breakdown of the Big 3. No exercise, poor eating and wasted calories from booze, I also feel terrible.
I enjoy alcoholic beverages and will continue to consume beers in 2015. It is my pledge to myself that I will drink in moderation throughout the year. While this is a New Years resolution I have proven for 3-years in a row that I can live this lifestyle for extended periods and it feels good. The one difference is that I will be able to drink in moderation. I have come to the late realisation that binge drinking is doing far more harm than the temporary good feelings that alcohol can bring.
I enjoy eating well and exercising. I will on occasion have a steak and a slice of pizza. It is the over consumption of alcohol that gets me into trouble. The downside to my health is no longer worth it. I write this in the Blog to hold myself accountable in the eyes of other people that will see the results.
One other factor is the boat. When I drive the boat I do not drink. I drink afterwards. I'm well behind the boat guests in drinking. In the past I played catch up. My pledge is to once again drink at a moderate level. Cutting back on buns and bread in general is a good idea. The staple boat meal of sausage on a bun, will be a sausage without a bun for me and I will explore other food options. Blindly eating chips is also out for me.
