Toronto Football Club (TFC) lost 6-0 to Montreal Impact tonight on the second leg of Canadian Championship matchup. In TFC's 7th season they have played 8 games and won 1 of those matches.
In the history of the MLS league no team, other than TFC, have went more than 3-years without making the playoffs. TFC will miss the playoffs for the 7th consecutive year.
Both Montreal and Vancouver expansion teams will have made the playoffs in their second year. Indeed Montreal is at the top of the table.
I am advocating that MLS revoke the Toronto franchise. Shut down the team for 2-3 years. Sell the franchise rights, at a discount, to a local owner willing to invest the time and effort to build a competitive team. Ban MLSE from owning the team.
There is a precedent when the NBA revoked the Cleveland Cavaliers from their owners and took over the team.
As an alternative the MLS could seize the franchise and hold it in trust, until they find suitable ownership. Either way MLSE should be striped of their franchise ownership before they single handily destroy this market for professional soccer.
