I was offered a seniors discount at The Bay. On Tuesday at The Bay restaurant the elderly sales lady asked if I was over 60, as I would be eligible for a 15% discount. I still have 8-years and 1-week before I get my discount. M told me this week that I was already past middle age.
A week Monday I take my boat driving lessons. Lake Ontario will be a safer place.
The vote on gay marriage in Ireland and the Vatican's reaction to it showed that Ireland has become a secular country and the Catholic Church has increasingly become a Third World institution. The church which continues to do good works in poor nations has become a single issue, right-wing, anti-abortion crusader in the west. Priests and Bishops lecturing their flock to vote in Republican and Conservative politicians to office. Issues like fair wages, worker's rights, poverty, victims of paedophile priests are all irrelevant to the western Catholic Church. The church has joined up with evangelical Christians, Muslims and Third World immigrants to push forward their socially conservative agenda.
Advances in science, liberal attitudes towards social issues, increased access to information on the Internet will further distance the church from the youth in western nations. I don't think other Christian churches will benefit. I believe that that people will continue to drift away from organised religion. Many will lose faith altogether.
For the Vatican to label the Irish vote on gay marriage an abomination is further evidence of the eastward drift of the church. This comment coming from a church with massive, largely gay paedophile scandals is further proof of an institution that has lost its credibility in western society.
I don't think the Catholic Church should necessarily modernise its teachings. Jesus didn't appear to have any female apostles. Though that may be in dispute. Married priests apparently were the norm in the early centuries of the church. The Dogma and biblical passages are what they are. I do not believe abortion was an option in biblical times. The church doesn't have to change with the times. Adherents, followers, parishioners have to decide whether they still believe.
If the Catholic Church offered Confirmation to parishioners when they were 30 rather than 13, fully able to make an intellectual choice as a free thinking adult, how many would still go through with the sacrament? It doesn't really matter in the end as many, if not most just drift away. Many of those people nominally clinging to a faith in name only.

World's Worst Captain
On June 15th I will be taking the day off to take boat driving lessons. I retained a boat driving instructor to teach me how to park and other tight manoeuvring. I'm in my 3rd year and I have not fully mastered parking. I have really only driven 1 1/2 years as I'm starting year 3 and I missed half of last season. I'm hoping this 5-hour course will help. I may even take a second lesson later in the season.
I left the cube world behind last month and was given an office at the workplace. My last words to my former cube mates was to tell them "I better not hear you badmouth the company". "But D'Arcy you were the worst at badmouthing the company". "Don't be like me".
I have a direct view into the Victoria Secret store from my office in the atrium of the Mall. My probation officer told me that a view from my office window does not violate the terms of my lifetime ban from Victoria Secret. I don't want to get into it but there were allegations of loitering or similar behaviour. When I was a kid it was called standing around. I don't know when they criminalised it?
I wrote to the developers of my new condo to complain about how slow the construction progress has been. I bought into the project in 2011. They are working on the 8th floor of a 42 storey building. At this pace they will finish the condo in 18-years. I have emailed them at least 6 times without a response. This time they responded only to have them claim that they have contacted me numerous times. A bold faced lie.
For 7-years I have dutifully lined up at the Second Cup coffee shop at the Mall every weekday morning. I have quietly ordered the same large dark coffee. I have never uttered a word of complaint. Last week I flashed my coffee loyalty card, which I recently started using, at the card reader. Apparently I flashed the card too soon. The store manger yelled at me to calm down. Her response even amused the guy standing in front of me. I'm now boycotting Second Cup. I'm not sure this lady has any clue how offencive it is to yell "calm down" to someone that hasn't spoken. The Soup Nazi would not have taken issue with anything that I did in that line.
I will be taking photos of how the local dogs have destroyed my condo lawn. Let's just pave over the lawn. Re-sodding it every year is a waste of time and money.

I'm Back
I read a LinkedIn entry where the person described themselves as a volunteer as well as their regular job. I will be adding volunteer to my entry as well. I won't be volunteering, just adding the description. Philanthropist as well as I donate money to worthy causes.
I am taking up Miming. Not silent miming but verbal mime. It is a controversial wing of the miming community that combines miming with poetry. There is a broad section of the general public that love mime and poetry and I plan to give them both at the same time.
The city of Toronto is slowly, but steadily, transforming the waterfront. It comes in phases with a combination of public spaces, condos and office towers. Always there is public access to the water's edge with boardwalks, faux beaches and parkland.The "NO" crowd want nothing but parkland on the waterfront. No condos, no buildings, just parkland. In fact many would prefer natural parkland with high grasses and weeds. The reality is that if you build parkland only the area would remain empty of people. Part of city building is having people live and work on the waterfront. You build communities and that is what the city is doing. The taxes and fees generated by developers and residents pay for the waterfront access and parks.
The extreme right and extreme left in this city are against progress. The right does not want to invest in infrastructure or build attractions, the left is against private development and want taxpayers money to fund people who do not work and contribute little to society.
I note that Mike Layton and other left leaning councillors are against loosening the rules for food trucks in downtown. This is another example of protecting the few at the expense of the majority.
A great myth in Canada is that Ontario is a high tax, big spending jurisdiction. In reality it is one of the lowest taxed provinces in Canada and spends the least amount per capita in the country. If you want to go to a province that spends money move to Alberta. Read the Globe and Mail editorial on the Ontario budget.
I don't respect Stephen Harper as a man or a politician. I do not recognise him as the leader of Canada. His targeted tax cuts and spending are a fraud. He did not target me and succeeded in missing me with his tax cuts.
I'm not a fan of Premier Wynne but her budget was a fair document. She should not be afraid to bring in tolls to raise money for transit. Loosen the liqour laws that frighten the extreme right and extreme left. Drivers argue that tolls tax vehicle users to fund public transit. Who built the roads you drive on, or plows that clear the snow?
